Gifted/Special Needs Children

Students who are motivated and show special ability and interest in some aspect of schoolwork may be invited to participate in one of our Special Abilities programmes. Throughout the year we offer challenges in such things as research, art, written language, science and technology, mathematics, drama, music and ICT.

The Icon Centre staffed by qualified Teacher Aides and under the guidance of the SENCO (Special Education Needs Co-ordinator), provides quality programmes and support for students with moderate learning and behavioural needs.

The individual needs of these students are met in a variety of ways which may include withdrawal to work in the Icon Centre for given periods of time and/or support in the classroom. Depending on what the need or difficulty might be we may arrange a special programme from the Correspondence School.

Emphasis is given to children with learning needs in Reading and Written Language. The Icon Centre has an excellent range of resources to support student learning. Regular liaison takes place with both parents and the childs classroom teacher.
